Self Defense-surviving Mountain Lion Encounters

As with all things of nature, mountain lion attacks seem to ebb and flow. As I found out today the weather has as much to do with their appearance as anything. When the weather is dry they are driven to lower elevations to find water and along the way some food.
Mountain lions are much different in their tactics than bears. Bears of course are much bigger than mountain lions which can get to 120 pounds or so. Bears just come at you using their surprisingly quick reflexes and brute size and strength.

Mountain lions stalk their prey. They frequently are upon a victim before they know it. They use stealth and speed. They go for the head or neck and a quick kill.
I would never go into the back country without at least a large bear pepper spray. The bear spray most commonly used has a range of up to 30 ft. NEVER. Mountain lions and bears have extremely sensitive noses and don’t like having them abused. They respond swiftly to a dose of pepper spray which is exactly what you want.

Tips For The Elderly Living Alone

For many elderly people, living alone can be a scary and confusing new experience. Some have never lived alone before and have always relied on others to take care of finances, home security, and housekeeping. Others are struggling with health and mobility issues that make daily living difficult. A slip in the bathtub or a fall down the stairs can be a terrifying and serious worry.
To help your elderly loved one avoid household accidents, slips, and falls, read the following guidelines. It doesn0t take much to make sure that your relative is living safely.

0 If stairs are absolutely necessary, make sure they are sturdy and have secure handrails at comfortable heights.

Closed Circuit TV: Keeping Presidents, Politicians, And The Public Safe

We all know the story. The date was April 14, 1865. Four people were in the presidential box of Ford’s theater, enjoying “Our American Cousin,” a comedy play about a rugged American and his noble English relatives. They included Major Henry Rathbone, Civil War veteran; and his fianclara Harris, daughter of a U.S. Senator. Also seated in the box were President Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Marry Todd Lincoln. Lincoln was shot while watching the performance. He died the next day. His assassin was John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate supporter. But how did Booth access the location of the President of the United States? Booth had performed several times at Ford’s theater, so he was very familiar with the building’s design. He arrived at the theater’s back door, at around 9:00 in the evening. Then, Booth walked down a tight hallway between the theater’s balcony, and Lincoln’s box. Booth entered the box’s door, secured it, and then murdered one of America’s most popular presidents ever. Could Lincoln’s assassination have been prevented if a closed circuit TV, or CCTV, had been available in 1865?
